Matlock Bath is less than a miles river side stroll with its range of unique shops, pubs and restaurants.

Matlock Bath has the feeling of a seaside town with its fish and chips, traditional chocolate and sweet shops, amusements and old fashioned tea rooms.

A special not to be missed is the gathering mainly on Sundays of the motor bike enthusiasts along the promenade known as North and South Parade.

For more than 300 years Matlock Bath has been a tourist attraction. Once famous for its warm natural springs the wealthy used to visit the spa for its healing qualities.

The original petrifying well can be found in the Aquarium.

View-from-Heights-of-AbrahamA visit to the Heights of Abraham is a must, first a ride above Matlock Bath in the cable car takes you to the Hilltop Park and Caverns where there is plenty to keep you occupied for the whole day.

For fun with the kids visit Gullivers Kingdom approximately ½ mile away. Ideal for children aged two to thirteen where you will find themed areas, rides, shops and loads more to fill the day. Or for the more adventurous 22 miles away is Alton Towers.

For the historian a visit to the Peak District Mining Museum in Matlock Bath. Experience how the Derbyshire lead miner toiled to extract the mineral Galena (lead ore). Or if rare minerals are your interest then visit The Blue John Cavern 25 miles away, where you can tour the caverns. Visit the shop where you will find Blue John jewellery set in silver or Blue John used in ornaments such as bowls and goblets.

Visit the magnificent stately homes such as Chatsworth House 10 miles, and Hardwick Hall 20 miles, or the medieval Haddon Hall, 8 miles, all surrounded by enchanting gardens. Take a trip down memory lane at Crich Tramway Village, 5 miles away, or watch skilled combat displays by battling knights at Bolsover Castle about 18 miles.

For those interested in the outdoors why not travel the 6 ½ miles and visit the vast Carsington Water  where Dame Ellen McCarthy learned to sail. Here you can take part in the watersports, climbing, mountain biking or just a stroll around the peaceful water. 

Or why not have a day trip out to the Peak District National Park and visit the local produce markets in Buxton and Ashbourne or try a tart in Bakewell!
